Divorce Mediation in Delhi Family Court
Mediation can give spouses an opportunity to discuss settlement with the assistance of a neutral mediator during a Delhi family-court divorce or matrimonial dispute. It is a settlement process, not a substitute for the court deciding the merits when the parties cannot agree.
What mediation can address
The discussion may cover the continuation or dissolution of the marriage, maintenance or alimony, custody and visitation, return of belongings, financial arrangements and connected proceedings. The issues depend on the case and the terms the parties are willing and legally able to settle.
Prepare before the session
- Bring the latest pleadings and court orders.
- Write down the issues that remain genuinely disputed.
- Separate financial questions from child-related questions.
- Have reliable figures and records available where money is involved.
- Identify any urgent issue that cannot safely wait for mediation.
Keep settlement terms precise
A settlement should not rely on vague promises. If money is being paid, the amount and relevant terms should be clear. If custody or visitation is agreed, the arrangement should be workable in real life, including days, timings and handover responsibilities where necessary. If connected cases are to be withdrawn or resolved, the agreement should address them clearly.
If mediation succeeds
The agreed terms must be considered in the context of the pending case and applicable law. A settlement should be read carefully before it is accepted. The mediator does not become the judge and does not independently decide whether the settlement is suitable for either party.
If mediation fails
Failure to reach agreement does not by itself decide who is right. The case can return to the court and continue through the applicable procedural stages. Parties may also reach agreement later if circumstances change.
Mediation is not a guaranteed shortcut
The value of mediation is the opportunity for structured discussion. It should not be treated as a promise that a divorce will settle, that a particular payment will be accepted, or that the court will ultimately make a particular order.

|---|---|
| Money | Relevant income, expense and settlement figures |
| Children | Current routine, school commitments and proposed contact arrangements |
